Coaching guides

  • Principles of play — The ideas behind every good team, in attack and in defence, and how to build a training session around one of them.
  • Positions — The fifteen positions, what each one does, and why young players should try several.
  • Safety at training — A short check for before, during and after every training session.
  • Concussion awareness — If in doubt, sit them out. How to spot a possible concussion, what to do straight away, and how a player comes back.
  • Age-grade guidance — What changes as players grow: the game they play, contact, and how the session planner follows it.

Clubs

  • Create a club profile — A club's name and town are public. The person who answers its email stays private.
  • Add club information and branding — League, standard, founding year, teams, members and colours, plus your crest and cover image.
  • Showcase your facilities and club culture — Facilities, honours, history and photos tell a recruit what the club is like.
  • Search for players and coaches — Filter players by position, age and country, and coaches by country and region (and by level, availability and specialism, for those who shared them).
  • Post recruitment opportunities — Write adverts for players or coaches in the club portal; published ones appear in Vacancies.
  • Contact suitable candidates — Message a player or coach, and ask for their details with a note saying who you are and why.
  • Manage recruitment in the club portal — Adverts, applications, teams and coaches, in one place for your club.
  • Build long-term talent pipelines — Teams, coaching staff, saved searches and the conversations you keep.
  • Staff and roles: who helps run your club — Club Administrators, club managers and team staff — each through their own coach profile, never a shared login.
  • Invite staff, and answer an invitation — Invite a coach of the club or an email address; the person invited accepts or declines.
  • Two-step sign-in for Club Administrators and managers — A passkey or an authenticator app is required to manage a club; team staff are strongly encouraged to use one.
  • The club's activity log — Who did what at your club, newest first: kept for 24 months and never editable. The whole log is for the club's owner and its super administrators.
  • Club Administrators: permissions, teams and the limit — Give a trusted person exactly the permissions and teams they need. A club can have one Club Administrator for each active team.
  • Running the club from a staff seat — With the right permissions, a staff seat can look after the club profile, teams, coach requests, applications, adverts and billing — work only the club profile itself could do before.
  • Seasons and squads — Each team has a squad in each season. Registered players join only by accepting — an invitation or a join code.
  • Temporary players, the Bin and paper consent — Records of players who are not on My Rugby Career: only what the club needs, sealed, and erased after 12 months.
  • Fixtures and results — Each team's matches per season: add them, publish them to the squad, enter results and download them.
  • Import fixtures — Read a fixture list in your own browser, check every row, and add it as drafts.
  • Pick the Match Day 23 — Choose the starting fifteen and the replacements for a fixture, then publish the team sheet to the squad in one step.
  • Share team sheets and match cards — Images and PDFs of a locked team sheet or of a fixture, drawn on your own device in your club's colours.
  • A young player's full name on shared team sheets — Outside the club, players under 18 appear as first name and initial, unless a parent or guardian agrees to the full name.
  • The player pool — Every squad of a season on one page, to see who plays where, with the same name rules as the squads.
  • Match recorder only: a seat that just records matches — Let somebody record a team's matches in the MRC app without giving them its squad, fixtures or team sheets.
  • The MRC app: record matches from the sideline — For coaches and clubs: record live match statistics on your phone, with or without signal, as a Quick Match of your own or with your club's fixtures and team sheets, synced with the club.
  • Install the MRC app — Put the MRC app on the phone you take to matches: it opens from its own icon, full screen, and works without signal.
  • Try the MRC app in Demo Mode — Anybody can open and install the MRC app without an account and try every screen on a demo match with fictional teams. Nothing is saved, synced, exported or shared.
  • Match reports — Matches recorded with the MRC app appear on the club's fixtures: the team's staff see the whole report, and each player of the squad sees the team's report and their own line.
  • Shirt numbers and positions — A player's position and shirt number are separate: the position is their place on the Match Day 23, the shirt number any whole number from 1 to 99, changed on the website or in the MRC app until kick-off.
  • Free kicks: what was chosen and what happened — In the MRC app a free kick has its own button next to Penalty. Record who it was given to, what the team chose and, after a tap, what happened, so free kicks count in possession, set piece, discipline and the match report.
  • Cards: yellow, second yellow and red — Record each card as the referee shows it. A second yellow card is an automatic red: the MRC app sends the player off, and the reports show Yellow 1, Yellow 2 and the automatic red with their times.
  • Recording depth and player actions — Before kick-off, choose how much the MRC app records: Quick, Standard or Analyst. Analyst adds player actions, such as carries with metres, tackles, rucks and line breaks, for the running, defence and breakdown numbers in the report and on the website.
  • Match analysis: what likely contributed to each score — The match report’s Impact section shows, for every try, the recorded entries that likely contributed to it, with an impact and a confidence level. It is worked out by fixed rules from what was recorded, without AI, and it never says that something caused a score.
  • Likely next: the suggestions above the buttons — While a match is live, the MRC app suggests up to three entries above the buttons. Certain follow-ups come first and record in one tap; the others are the entries most likely next, each with a short reason. They are worked out on the phone, without AI.
  • Quick Match Setup: your own match, without a club fixture — Any coach can set up a match in the MRC app without a club fixture: the match details, a 23-player squad with shirt numbers and positions, then record it with the full recorder. Signed in with a coach account, it is kept on your account and syncs to your other devices.
  • Correcting a confirmed match — A confirmed match is final, but the club's administrators can correct a mistake in it — a wrong scorer, a missing or extra event, the player of the match, a replacement's minute — with a reason. The statistics follow.
  • Squad statistics — For each squad, the club's staff see leaders, every player's season and selection from the team sheets, worked out from the matches recorded with the MRC app and confirmed.
  • Laws of the Game in the MRC app — Search the laws of your union in the MRC app, also without signal; a result opens the official page.
  • Recording offences and timing in the MRC app — Record which law was broken, free kicks, scrum and lineout sanctions and head-contact reviews, and time conversions, lineouts and scrums, under the law set of your competition.
  • Discipline by law: your club and your players — See the penalties, free kicks and cards from your confirmed matches by law category, by player and season, with trends, recurring issues and timing; a player sees their own on the profile.
