The MRC app: record matches from the sideline

Clubs

For coaches and clubs: record live match statistics on your phone, with or without signal, as a Quick Match of your own or with your club's fixtures and team sheets, synced with the club.

  1. Open myrugbycareer.com/match on your phone (or the installed app) and sign in inside the app with your My Rugby Career account: your email and password and your second step if you use one, or a passkey. The app is for coaches aged 18 or over, clubs and club staff, with a confirmed email address. Setting a phone up always needs a fresh sign-in (at most 10 minutes old). The phone stays signed in for 30 days; your password is never stored on it.
  2. The start screen offers Quick Match Setup: your own match, without a club fixture (see "Quick Match Setup"). Signed in with a coach account, it is saved to your account and reaches your other phones; signed out, or with a club account, it stays on this phone. Sign in & sync brings your club's fixtures and team sheets, and once you are signed in, Training runs your sessions from the Session planner. Without an account the app opens in Demo Mode, with fictional teams (see "Try the MRC app in Demo Mode").
  3. Sign in & sync shows Available matches: the next 14 days' fixtures of the teams you look after or record for, with the state of each team sheet. Only a published team sheet can be used: once the Match Day 23 is published, tap Get ready and the sheet (names, shirt numbers, positions) is kept on the phone, encrypted. Send now refreshes the list and sends what is waiting.
  4. If the club publishes a newer team sheet after you got ready, the match shows "Team sheet updated": tap Update to take the new one, as long as nothing has been recorded yet. Once events are recorded, the app warns you and keeps the team sheet you started with.
  5. On the website, "Open in MRC app" next to a published team sheet or in My teams opens the app at that match in Available matches. The link carries only the fixture's id, never a name.
  6. On "Get ready" choose the half length, the sin-bin length, the red card ("Standard red", or "20-minute red": a player sent off cannot return, but after 20 minutes of playing time a replacement may come on through Sub; a second yellow counts the same way) and the goal kicker, then tap Get ready. Half length, sin-bin and red card are fixed once the match has kicked off.
  7. The header stays at the top of every screen: the score, the match clock with the time left in the half (added time shows as +m:ss), how many are on the field, and the sin-bin and 20-minute timers with the shirt numbers. Tap the clock to pause it.
  8. Tap a kick-off under "Likely next" to start the clock. Record with the big tiles, coloured by kind; their questions appear in place, with your answers so far above them and Back, Skip and Cancel below. The time is taken when you touch the first tile.
  9. "Likely next" is never empty while the match is live: first what certainly follows (the conversion after a try, the scrum after a knock-on, the lineout after a penalty kicked to touch, the restart after a score), then the entries most likely next, with the team already chosen where possession makes it plain. One tap records or opens the entry; nothing is recorded without that tap.
  10. Every entry shows an Undo bar for six seconds. Later, tap any event in the timeline to change the player, switch the team, change the result or remove it: each correction is kept in the history.
  11. Opposition players are recorded by shirt number. For an adult club match, Get ready asks "Opposition team sheet?": answer Yes to type or paste their paper sheet, one line per player (number, then name), and the timeline and report show their names. It is optional (No by default, half a sheet is fine, menu → Get ready to finish it later), stays on this phone only, leaves with our names, and exports show first name and initial. An injury is recorded only as "stays on" or "left the field", with the time, never a medical detail.
  12. At full time open Review, check the timeline, choose the player of the match if you wish (optional, from your team sheet) and tap Confirm match. A club match is confirmed with the club once every event has synced: the score can also be saved as the fixture's result, and the match can no longer be changed. A Quick Match kept on your account is confirmed there once all its events have reached it; one that stays on this phone is confirmed on the phone.
  13. A Quick Match can become a club match later: sign in, open its Review, tap "Link to a club match", choose the fixture, check which player on the team sheet each shirt number was, and confirm. The fixture's team names replace the ones you typed.
  14. The Report tab opens on Summary: a short written summary, the match in numbers, discipline, set piece, top performers and the score progression. The chips above switch to Attack & defence, Set piece, Discipline (penalties by type, when and where, the most penalised players), Players (tap a player for their own report), Team report and Timeline. Download a two-page PDF summary, the full PDF, an Excel workbook or a web page.
  • Install it for the sideline (see "Install the MRC app"). Installed, it works without signal and keeps the screen on while a match is live.
  • No signal at the ground? Recording never needs it. Each match shows its state (on this phone only, waiting, syncing, synced, or not sent with the time of the next try) and sends by itself when the signal returns.
  • Names are encrypted with a key kept in the same browser storage. This protects against casual inspection and other websites, not against someone with the unlocked phone, its browser profile, or a script running on myrugbycareer.com. Downloaded names leave the phone 7 days after the match has synced (or 7 days after an unplayed fixture), the next time the app is opened; a match that has not synced is never removed. Settings, App lock sets a PIN of 4 to 6 digits: it locks the app's screens, it does not encrypt; ten wrong PINs wipe the names and sign the phone out.
  • Settings, Sign out cancels the phone's sign-in, wipes the downloaded names and replaces the encryption key. Names you typed yourself for a Quick Match stay, sealed with the new key. Matches not yet synced stay until you sign in again. Signed-in devices lists your phones and removes a lost one; a new password or "Sign out everywhere" signs every phone out too.
  • Every 14 days at least, the app confirms that your account and your coach or club profile are active (it checks each time it opens with signal, at most once an hour). Without that check a new match is a demo match, which is not saved; a match in progress is never interrupted. If the account is suspended, waiting for payment or no longer allowed, the app removes the downloaded names, keeps unsent matches sealed until the account is active again, and offers Demo Mode.
  • "New demo match" starts a match with fictional teams to try things out. It is not saved: it is deleted when you close the app or tap "End demo".
