Shirt numbers and positions
Clubs
A player's position and shirt number are separate: the position is their place on the Match Day 23, the shirt number any whole number from 1 to 99, changed on the website or in the MRC app until kick-off.
- The position comes from the place on the Match Day 23: places 1 to 15 are loosehead prop to fullback, places 16 and up the replacements. Moving a player to another place changes their position, never their number.
- On the website, Options on a place sets its shirt number: a whole number from 1 to 99. Left empty, the place's own number is used (place 10 wears 10). A team sheet with two players on the same number cannot be published.
- In the MRC app, Get ready shows Team sheet · shirt numbers: each player's position, name and number. Until kick-off pick any number from 1 to 99 for any player; a number another player wears is swapped, so every number stays one player's.
- Each change is saved on the phone at once and works without signal. It reaches the club as soon as there is signal, at the latest together with the kick-off. Then check the list and tap Get ready.
- From kick-off the numbers are fixed. Every try, kick, card, replacement and statistic, the match report and its PDF use the numbers on that list.
- If numbers on the published team sheet were missing or used twice, the app numbers the players by position and says so: check the list before kick-off.
- If the club publishes a newer team sheet before kick-off, Update takes the new sheet with its numbers: change them again in the app if needed.
- Squad numbers (a player's details in Squads) are 1 to 99 too and may repeat across teams; within one match every number belongs to one player.
