An email says my two-step sign-in will be reset

Troubleshooting

The owner was asked to remove your second step. If that was not you, cancel it from the email.

  1. This email is sent the moment the owner asks for a reset — normally because somebody wrote to support saying they had lost every second step. It says when the reset takes effect (normally 24 hours later).
  2. If you asked for it, do nothing: after the waiting time your passkeys, authenticator app and recovery codes are removed and you sign in with your password or provider.
  3. If you did not ask for it, press the link in the email and then "Cancel the reset". Nothing about your sign-in changes.
  4. Signing in with your passkey, authenticator app or a recovery code also cancels it, because that proves you still have them.
  5. Then change your password: somebody may have tried to take over your account.
  • The link works once and only until the reset takes effect.
